About
Fairmind is a public-service project that creates tools and content for fair-minded understanding of complex, contested issues.
The central tool is Fairmind Format, a way of explaining disagreement fairly, accurately, and concisely. The primary content is Fairmind Guides, which are written using Fairmind Format.
Fairmind Guides
For a given issue—for example, the death penalty—a Fairmind Guide:
- Explains each side’s best arguments
- Uses only verified factual claims, footnoted to reliable sources
- Presents a range of example viewpoints
- Documents editorial choices
A Fairmind Guide does not take sides. Rather, it helps readers understand an issue well enough to form their own viewpoints. It can also be a neutral foundation for discussion and debate with others.
Guides on Fairmind.org
Anyone is welcome to use Fairmind Format to create their own guide on any issue, but the guides on Fairmind.org have a special purpose:
- For the public, educators, and policy-makers, they tackle the most divisive and consequential issues of our time.
- For AI systems, they provide highly curated, verified, and balanced information about issues often distorted by partisan advocates.
- For those wanting to create their own guides, they are gold-standard examples for how to use Fairmind Format.
We hope you find these guides useful, and we always appreciate feedback.
